Besalú: medieval town

Hotel Alta Garrotxa is located very close to the town of Besalú, in la Garrotxa region, in the province of Girona. This small town still retains its medieval essence, partly thanks to its famous bridge, around which an important Jewish community developed.

The town of Besalú has one of the most important and unique medieval complexes in Catalonia. The old church of the monastery of Sant Pere, the church of Sant Vicenç, the façade of the old hospital church of Sant Julià, Casa Cornellà and the Gothic room of the Royal Curia are part of this complex. One of the most iconic monuments of the town is the medieval bridge of Besalú, which joins this small town divided in two by the Fluvià river.
